How do I play with the animals?
To play, visit any shelter, and click on the orange paw to get started. You’ll either go live right away, or you will be placed in a the queue to await your turn for play time. To check out another shelter playroom, click on the “Our Shelters” link above for a list of participating shelters. For more detailed instructions, click our “how to play” link above.
Why doesn’t the toy move at the same time I’m activating it?
Because Reach-in technology is realtime technology, the toys and directional controls are being activated immediately as you press your mouse or keyboard controls to operate them. If there appears to be a delay, it is due to the bandwidth of the participating shelter’s internet connection, or due to a slow video return to you over the internet. Reach-in does our best to set camera controls to maximize your experience, balancing the best possible video with the quickest response of the controls.
Why aren't there any cats in the room?
While there are always cats available for adoption at participating shelters, playroom visitors may find few or no cats in the room. This is often due to routine cleaning, where cats are transferred out of the kitty rooms until the room is finished being cleaned. The number of animals in the playroom may also depend upon current adoptions that have taken place at the shelter. In addition, shelters may elect to reserve the room, holding it temporarily empty awaiting a group of cats that get along specifically well together.
Whatever the reason, it is important to remember that the iPet Companion playroom is only a small part of each shelter’s overall operations. If animals are not present in the online playroom, viewers can be sure that they are somewhere else that the shelter has determined will best connect them with the people who want to adopt them. You can be sure that each facility is making the best decisions regarding how to use all of their resources for the most benefit of their animals.
If a playroom is empty, visit another shelter’s playroom by clicking the “Our Shelters” link above. We are sure you’ll find someone purrrfectly ready for your attention.
Why are there no interactive toys on the dog camera side?
The dog rooms on our site are often populated with puppies and other high energy dogs. One of the first concerns is that puppies tend to chew on wires and virtually anything they can get their paws on. Safety and tender care are our top priority and we have determined that a more robust solution for interactive toys must be created. We have it as an action item for future development, so stay tuned!
How do I feed the puppies?
The first thing to do is navigate to the “feed a puppy” side of our site. You will see a list of puppies and a button associated with each playpen labeled “Watch and Feed”. Click on the button and a new window will open with the playful puppies in view! Each new visitor is given 5 treats to give the puppies. Clicking the “feed” button will drop a tasty treat into the bowl, which the puppies will eagerly snack on!
How do I buy more treats to feed the puppies?
Once all the free treats have been given to the puppies you will be given the option to buy more treats within the same window you view the puppies on. Each treat is about 20 cents and we have an option to buy them in quantities of 5 or more. Select your method of (verified and secure) payment and enter in the details requested. After the payment processes, additional treats will become available for the puppies!
Why does feeding the puppies cost money?
A portion of each purchase goes to benefit the shelters involved. While it is nice to provide treats we also are working towards using this technology to provide a better life overall for dogs in need of care. Your small donations make a BIG difference!
Which browsers are supported to view the kitties?
Our site works best with Microsoft Edge, Firefox, and Chrome. The biggest requirement is native HTML 5 compatibility so many other browsers should also work.
How can I get one of these for my shelter?
Just get in touch with us to explore the possibilities! We’re always eager to connect with humane societies, animal shelters, and rescue groups who are interested in installing iPet Companion at their facilities. For more information, send a message to email@example.com and let us know of your interest. We’d love to hear from you.
Is there a mobile app for this?
Not yet, but there will be soon! We understand that people are itching to get their hands on a mobile version of iPet Companion, and we are listening. We are currently working on creating a mobile-ready iPet interface that will work across all platforms, including both Apple and Android devices.
Stay tuned… we will announce this exciting new option as soon as it is available!
How does this help the shelter animals?
We’ve found that different facilities benefit in different ways from the use of the iPet Companion system. Some have seen increases in adoptions or donations, while others have found the systems valuable for outreach and communications. Still others have found that iPet Companion promotes a positive image of their facilities, giving prospective adopters a window to their world and showing that their animals are well cared-for and healthy. In all these ways, the interactive nature of the iPet Companion system helps to keep shelter animals in the minds and hearts of people in a way that words and pictures alone cannot do.
In addition to the benefits available to individual partner shelters, we have found that iPet Companion reminds online visitors of the wonderful nature of adopted animals. Very often the visitors to iPet sites are logging on from locations far away from that shelter. They may not be able to adopt at the participating shelter, but through their interaction they certainly will be reminded of the shelter animals needing a home in general…perhaps right in their own community. Though this technology is currently offered in just a few facilities, the very real connection it creates is promoting animal adoptions everywhere.
Why are there ads on the playroom sites?
Because the iPet Companion shelter sites are largely a pro-bono project for us and not a money-making venture, we decided to allow advertising into our sites to help cover our costs to maintain the shelter sites. This was a decision we made only after careful consideration. Because ad revenue helps us cover expenses, we are able to offer iPet technology to more shelters that can benefit. If you have any concerns about the advertising, please know that the ads are supporting the remote viewing sites, and therefore supporting the animals.
iPet advertisements are family-friendly. If you see any ads that are not, please contact us and we will remove them right away.
Where is iPet Companion made?
We are proud to say that the iPet Companion system is locally-manufactured in our hometown of Boise, Idaho, USA.
